The church got its name from Mrs Elizabeth Somervell, who in 1901 donated the site to the Presbyterian Church in memory of her late husband. A photo of Mrs Somervell hangs in our foyer.
The original church opened on June 24 1905. Each year on the Sunday closest to that date we celebrate our founding with a special service. The large tile art work in the foyer is the contribution of our Sunday School and Youth Group members to the celebration of our centennial in 2005. In the chapel is an historical bible given by Rev H. B. Gray, Minister of St Andrews to Mrs Somervell for use in the new church. In 2005 the Gray family restored the bible, and commissioned the lectern for its display.
You can see photos of 11 ministers who have served the congregation in the foyer next to the photo of Mrs Somervell.

The current modern church building and community centre was opened in 2000.
